Yesterday was my first show of 2024. It was a good one, and pretty seamless, except for forgetting some of my hangers. Even though doing shows is exhausting. (I’m still tired today), I love being able to see/interact with customers. Added bonus is that it basically makes social media seem obsolete, I’m definitely here for that.
Since I recently made the decision to cut back on selling in retail brick and mortar shops, I have much more inventory in my studio than I usually do. This has been great, because it’s given me the opportunity to focus on other things like making clothes for myself, sewing some functional things for my family, painting, and hand stitching. Thanks for reading, Christa

1/28/2024 0 Comments Crochet for the win. . .Lately I haven’t really been interested in sewing, but I’ve had more ideas for crochet projects than I can manage in my brain. In the last couple of weeks I’ve made several sweaters, a dress, and I’m currently working on another sweater. Honestly, I’ve even been having ideas for new projects while I’m in the midst of a current project. During this flurry of crochet activity, I also had an epiphany of sorts regarding the fact that I have been underpricing my crochet clothing.
The only sewing I’ve been drawn to lately is several ideas I’ve been mulling over about making small art pieces. I think I’ll work on that this week. Shop update happening on February 5th. xo, C 1/5/2024 0 Comments January 05th, 2024Last week I tried a new way of working and I realized that it wasn't a good fit for me. I wanted to incorporate some of my vintage fabric scraps, which are pretty delicate , into some clothing, so I tried piecing them onto my dress form. While I loved the process, I wasn’t too thrilled with the results. Maybe I’ll try again, or perhaps I’ll figure out another way to use my vintage fabric.
The pics are some tops that I made before the holidays which I hope to list in the web shop next week. xo, C 1/1/2024 0 Comments New beginnings . . .Hi, and welcome to my blog. I'm Christa, the sole maker behind Wild Child Fibers. Not sure what my expectations are for this space, but I hope for it to be a place where I share what I'm creating and take a break from social media. Like most things in my life, I'm going to see where it goes and allow it to evolve organically.
On this first day of 2024, I cleaned out my studio which felt great, since I filled up a huge bag to donate. As I looked through ALL (yes, I went through everything ) of my fabric and materials, I decided it was a good time to start using all of the vintage scraps I received in donations that I have been saving for just the right projects. To be honest, as much as I love the vintage fabrics, I was really at a loss for how to use them in wearables, due to the age and wear and tear. Well, it finally came to me! I purchased a dress form from My Aunt Debbie last summer, something I've never had before aside from a wicker one for display purposes. Earlier today I started layering fabrics and bits on the form to see what I could come up with. Unfortunately, I have to get on with my day, so I need to put the project aside until tomorrow, but I'm really excited to work on it again tomorrow. xo, C |
